About Mia Underwood
Mia is a fine artist, illustrator, designer and published author who is half Danish and half English. Notably, Mia is the daughter of the renowned illustrator and fine artist, George Underwood.
- Art Foundation degree at Chelsea College of Art
- B.A degree in Graphic and Media Design at London College of Communication and Fashion Institute of Technology (New York)
Driven by a profound connection to nature, Mia's artwork centres on the concept of biophilia. She explores different mediums to create specific textures, often favouring an aged appearance from another time and place.
Recently, Mia has embarked on a new artistic journey, painting on antique objects as her canvas. She finds particular inspiration in the aged textures of these objects, each bearing the marks of years of use. Mia is fascinated by the hidden stories and echoes from the past embedded within these objects.
“I want to give the viewer a sense of resolve and power when they look at my work. The story and mystery is for them to work out.”
Mia's artwork has been showcased at several prestigious venues, including The Foss Art Gallery in Stow-On-The-Wold, The Wing Art Gallery in Wadhurst, Imagine Gallery in Suffolk, Putney Pies in London, Paxton & Glew in Brighton, and Do Not Obstruct in Brighton.
