Mia Underwood the artist shares her inspiration for this piece:
'I wanted to make a shrine as a reminder, in this modern, crazy world, to be thankful for the natural world from which we all came, to live in the present moment, and to have gratitude for what we have.
For this piece, I was inspired by my elegant Siamese tabby-point cat, Zebby, and the Ancient Egyptians.
They were regarded as spiritually important and were considered sacred animals with magical powers. Ancient Egyptians believed that keeping a cat would protect their home and bring good luck. Several gods and goddesses were associated with cats, the most famous of whom was the goddess Bastet.
Cats were excellent representations of many characteristics of Egyptian deities, such as divinity, health, wealth, family, protection, good fortune, and more. Even the Sun God Ra, one of the most important Egyptian gods, is associated with cats because of their love for napping in the sun.'
